Species Appreciation Group
In 1992, the decision was made to start two added benefits for NMQOC Inc. society members. One of these, the Species Appreciation Group (SAG) has continued to the current time. Sadly, the second initiative of a flasking group, has not continued.
Meetings are held every second month on a Saturday afternoon, time for the rest of the year will be 2:00 pm for 2:30 pm and vary in alternate years so that one year this will be the February, April, June, August, October and December and the following year the months will alter to January, March, May, July, September and November. This is so that the full range, of as many as possible, of the flowering times of the orchid species are covered.
There is no business, no formal meeting, no minutes, no formal invited guest speakers and no benching competition. The SAG meetings are an informal “show and tell” open to all NMQOC society members. Attendees bring along any flowering species orchids they may have, their cultural information, any botanical information they can find and they tell those present about their species orchid(s).
Having a flowering species orchid or botanical information is not a prerequisite for attendance. Those present are probably most interested in viewing the flowering species orchids and your cultural information (how you keep them alive and flower them).
When “show and tell” is completed an afternoon tea is provided to conclude the meeting. This allows the attendees to socialise and discuss orchid species.
SAG meeting attendees can trade orchid species plants on a private basis during meetings.
There is a small fee to be paid at each meeting. This helps cover the cost of the hall rental and meeting costs.
The remaining dates, locations and starting times for the remaining 2024 meetings will be:
-
Saturday 28 December 2024 in the Bald Hills Memorial Hall from 1:30 pm for 2:00 pm.
Meeting reminder notices can be emailed to anyone who wishes to receive them. To be added to the reminder list, contact David James at davidljames@bigpond.com
